MONGOOSE PUBLISHING
Although
Mongoose Publishing had had a website for some time its reliability
was low and it had never really fulfilled its potential as a business
tool. Powder Blue coverted the entire site into PHP and built new
MySQL database to manage the content. The website was also moved
to a new hosting package; tailored towards its own requirements.
In addition to these changes came the introduction
of custom-built online adminstration tools, which allow Mongoose
Publishing to directly control the content of their own site. This
facility has made the site far more responsive and helps ensure
that the information displayed is as current as possible.
Since the intial redevelopment the website has been
repeatedly revised and improved. Recent enhancements have included
the introduction of "subsites" for specific product lines,
the ability to pre-order forthcoming titles and the addition of
an extremely popular forum.
The result of all this work has been a dramatic increase
in web traffic. The current site provides not only advertising space
but a thriving on-line store, and the ideal medium through which
to maintain a dialogue with their readership.
COMEDY BOOKINGS
For the last 5 years Powder Blue has developed a web
based bespoke ticketing and box office system for one of the UK's
leading independent comedy clubs. This software is now being implemented
in other venues around the UK with stunning success. The software
is NOT just a simple shopping basket but allows
the venue to create a branded site tailored towards increased ticket
sales and reducing calls to the box office.
The Facts - Online ticket sales increase
revenue and reduce costs. The public expect to be able to buy tickets
online 24x7. Tactical email marketing sells unpopular shows. Online
sales need to be integrated with the box office
The Figures - Over 80% of Glee Club ticket sales
are done online. Over 50% of Glee Club ticket sales take place out
of office hours.
The Solution - 24 Hour online ticket sales with
integrated box office. Database-driven and fully branded site with
editable web pages. Online promotions set up in minutes. Targeted
email marketing and subscription service. All listings automatically
published on Chortle.
AIRPORT TRANSFER SERVICES
Today
ATS provide shared airport transfers from 21 major airports to nearby
holiday resorts. They service over 300 destinations and have the
capacity to move over 2,000 people on any one day. Recently they
won exclusive contracts to provide airport transfers for several
of the low cost airlines including EasyJet and Flybe.
ATS approached Powder Blue in April 2002 to develop
a web based application to replace their existing one which was
slow and difficult to operate. At that time ATS serviced only 4
airports and moved a maximum of 500 people on any one day.
The scope of the application was to cover:
- Public portal - on-line booking and secure payment
- Partner portal - on-line booking, invoicing, commissions,
reports
- Agents portal - vehicle scheduling, reports, prices,
ref data
- ATS Corp portal - on-line booking, edits, refunds,
invoices, ref data
Powder Blue have been involved in all parts of the
software lifecycle from the initial analysis through to the post
implementation support and enhancements.
The application has proven to be integral to
their current success and future plans.
DESCENT INTERNATIONAL
This extremely successful company offers exclusive
alpine chalet holidays with a total commitment to uncompromised
quality. Powder Blue has created, maintained and hosted Descent
International's websites since their incorporation in 1997.
Demands
made by the rapid expansion meant that Descent required a fully
dynamic website with the ability to update all text and pictures.
Additionally the emerging Soviet markets required that the site
could be viewed in English and Russian.
Working closely with design agency The Dirty Cat Company,
Powder Blue were able to combine the skills necessary to create
a site that reflected the company’s look and feel without
compromising the speed and functionality of the site.
Powder Blue built a bespoke content management system
that would allow all elements of the site to be maintained including,
Unlimited Menus, Web Pages and Languages. Fully dynamic pricing
means that Descent have full control over prices and the ability
to choose what information is displayed to the public down to an
individual Chalet and week.
Continued development of the site has continued
with recent additions including a personalised email creation tool
and a fully self managed gallery for press and agents to download
high resolution pictures for print.
GLEE CLUB
The Glee Club have purpose built venues in both Birmingham
and Cardiff city centres each of which seat over 400 people. In
1999 Powder Blue were approached to write a dynamic web site for
Birmingham to promote their comedy evenings. It was not long before
the site was enhanced to take bookings with online credit card payment.
Powder Blue had been made aware of their future long
term plans to open more clubs around the UK and had taken this into
consideration in the initial design, such that when Cardiff was
opened it was added to the site without any additional development
effort.
The public booking process proved to be so successful
that they decided to take all telephone sales using the web site
with a purpose built sales portal for their staff. The portal has
been further enhanced to provide management reports and produce
targeted mail shots to their clients.
Today over 60% of bookings are taken online via the
public web site and the sales portal has introduced a standard business
process for the Glee Club to take and manage bookings.
HUMAN CAPITAL RECRUITMENT
Human
Capital Recruitment (HCR) are a London based recruitment company
specialising in market risk. They started up in January 2003 and
asked Powder Blue to design and develop their web presence. Their
web site includes a job search and an on-line application process
as well as 'updateable' news items.
The administration area allows HCR to enter new jobs
with specific search criteria such as salary range and role type.
The job title and description that is entered is indexed and used
to return results on a free format text search engine built into
the site.
Once a job has been applied for on-line an email is
sent to the appropriate HCR employee assigned to that job. Applicants
can also register themselves with HCR without having to apply to
a specific job.
PROJECT PARTNERS
Project Partners are a recruitment firm in the UK
who specialise in supplying business technologists to the Financial
Markets. Their clients are primarily drawn from Capital Markets,
Asset Management, Energy Trading and Retail Banking.
Powder Blue where initially asked to design and develop
several static sites for this client. On successful completion of
these sites they asked Powder Blue to develop a client service portal
for one of their divisions called Reflect. This portal was to contain
contractor rate trends, market analysis and a rate request service.
All the information contained within the portal is maintained by
Reflect with nominal technical support from Powder Blue.
This portal is now a key service that Reflect offer
to their client base and are looking to extend it into other areas.
BASEPOINT
Basepoint PLC offers office and workshop units to
let on affordable 2 weekly easy in-easy out terms with 11 centres
throughout the south east. Due to their ever increasing offerings
and an impressive expansion program a need for a completely dynamic
web site was an obvious choice.
Powder Blue was found by Basepoint via a magazine
article reviewing one of our customers sites. Frustration caused
by their lack of editable content in their existing site started
a detailed analysis of all Basepoints present and future demands.
Future possibilities have been analysed and an appropriate
data model is already in place to allow for future enhancements
to be achieved when the need arises.
Phase 1 was completed in the summer of 2003, with
a fully editable site to replace their existing static web site,
this includes dynamic menu structure, easy page additions and the
first use of the custom data model to ensure that information is
usable from the centres information pages in the Future.
Phase 2 is due to include a user permission area to
allow for specifying user roles and edit permissions through the
site including specific centre control. The first practical application
of this will be to assign documents such as contracts to specific
people and / or centres for download.
Future plans include an extranet for staff, suppliers
and tenants to communicate with each other and to supply them with
Basepoint specific information creating a community of Basepoint
customers.
